Parking charges could be introduced at a country park.

Barnet Council is proposing changes to the car park at Scratchwood Open Space off the A1 near Borehamwood.

Under the new plans, it will cost 50p to park for up to one hour, £1 for up to two hours, £2 for up to three hours, £3 for up to four hours, and £6 for more than four hours.

The proposed charges would be in force 24 hours a day seven days a week - charges would not apply to disabled badge holders.

The daily parking charges would not apply to groups, organisations, and clubs involved in recognised activities in the park - instead dispensations or permits would be issued.

If the council's proposals are approved, visitors would be able to pay to park via a pay and display machine, via the council's telephone payment system, or through parking vouchers which can be obtained from the council.

A Barnet Council spokesman said: “Barnet has a great collection of 200 parks and open spaces and these are an important part of what makes Barnet a green borough. The proposed parking charges, which start from 50p at Scratchwood Open Space, will provide income to support reinvestment in the maintenance and improvement of parks. These currently remain proposals which are subject to any representations received from residents. A final report will be presented to members of the Environment Committee for consideration.”
