THE Duke of Kent pub at Scotch Common, West Ealing, welcomed Ealing North MP Stephen Pound this week to put him through his paces as a member of staff

The visit was part of UKHospitality’s MP Skills Challenge, challenging Members of Parliament to get hands-on in hospitality to appreciate the range of skills required to work in the sector.

Mr Pound said: “I’ve been in a few pubs in my time but never before behind the bar. I’d never appreciated the huge range of skills necessary.

“Businesses like [this] show how the hospitality industry not only provides real centres for the community and excellent food and drink but also really worthwhile jobs with great prospects.”

Del Brindle, general manager, added: “We would certainly challenge anyone who, incorrectly, thinks this is a low-skilled sector to come along and see for themselves how much skill goes into [it].”
