Noisy summer parties will be shut down by council ‘party patrols’.

Brent Council said officers will have the power to confiscate speakers and other stereo equipment if there are complaints about parties disturbing neighbours.

Patrols operating between 6pm and 2am on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays will measure noise levels using specialist equipment, and check to make sure events are licensed.

Cllr Tom Miller, responsible for community safety at Brent Council, said: “We’re not in the business of spoiling people’s fun, but one person’s good time shouldn’t become another’s nightmare.

“Persistent and excessive noise can make neighbours’ lives a misery. That’s why we will be cracking down on parties making a racket this summer.”

Noise complaints often spike during the summer due to the longer, warmer evenings.

The council urged hosts to inform neighbours of their intentions in advance, keep an eye on noise, particularly after 11pm, and ask guests to leave quietly.

Those suffering from excessive noise can report the issue via the ‘noise app’, which can be downloaded at www.thenoiseapp.com

During ‘normal’ operational hours – 11am to 5pm on Monday to Friday, including bank holidays – residents can report problems through the Brent Council website.
