Children were left inspired after Olympic stars attended their school's sports day.

Harrow Leisure Centre hosted an activities day called Sporting Champion for primary school children in the community on June 28 (Friday).

They were joined by Olympic sprinter Ashleigh Nelson, British figure skating champion Graham Newberry and Team GB sprinter and British championships silver medallist Rachel Miller.

The sports day was part of a new initiative to educate young children about the different types of Olympic sports.

More than 250 children from Marlborough Primary School, Kenmore Park Junior School and Newton Farm Primary School took part in a variety of activities including hurdles, jumping, street dance, netball, hockey, rugby and football.

“It’s not every day that children get to be up close and personal with athletes that are at the very top of their game and it was fantastic to see everyone having fun and trying new sports.

“We hope everyone left feeling inspired and look forward to welcoming them back through our doors to give sport a go.”
