David Lloyd Acton Park and West London Audi will aim to burn one million calories in 24 hours on Thursday for two charities.

The ambitious challenge will start at 12pm where David Lloyd Acton Park's more than 5,000 members and 80 plus staff alongside the West London Audi 130-man team and several of their customers will be collaborating through various forms of exercise to burn one million calories and raise £10,000 for charities Mind and Acton Homeless Concern.

West London Audi's team members will be contributing by cycling in their showroom, with some also participating in a 5-a-side football game, while David Lloyd Acton Park's members and staff will be taking a range of classes throughout the day and tracking the calories burnt using 'MyZone' belts, noting down cardio equipment readouts and monitoring step counts.

David Lloyd Acton Park fitness manager Ian Cooke, 35, said: "We want it to be a celebration of health, life and positivity and who doesn't love a crazy challenge?

"My go-to phrase when I see anyone struggling and looking like they're losing hope in their efforts is 'you're lapping the version of you sitting on the couch'."

West London Audi have previously held static bike rides in their centre for Sport Relief and the British Legion and past team members have also completed Sahara Desert treks, tandem free-falls and 25km walks, while Mr Cooke said he has always jumped into charity events such as White Collar Boxing and a four-hour swim in our outdoor pool.

Mr Cooke added: "Sometimes the fear of the challenge is something that lights a fire under me."

West London Audi and David Lloyd Acton Park, who have been in partnership since September 2008, will be fundraising for Acton Homeless Concern - who support those with nowhere to go - and charity 'Mind'. Both believe that physical and mental well-being is closely aligned.

West London Audi centre events manager Amanda Horner, 36, said: "We believe these are two truly worthy causes and we are more than delighted to support them.

"Our team really like to get involved and will be working very very hard throughout the mission, so we’re going for the all hands on deck approach!"

More than £2,000 has been raised so far but more donations are needed to reach the target of £10,000.

Miss Horner added: "Our fundraising and physical targets are ambitious but we have lots planned to help us reach them and we really hope everyone can get behind us, offering lots of calories and donations."
