A TEAM of Year 13 UTC Heathrow students won the national REME Craftsman Cup at the Ministry of Defence, Lyneham, on Wednesday.
Julian Baskar, Musaddiq Munshi, Tony Selvanathan, Reece Varsani and Hammad Rashid represented UTC Heathrow, based at Northwood, under the team name XALPHA against seven other schools.
Since September, the teams have been working on projects faced by REME engineers on a daily basis.
UTC Heathrow designed and developed a robotic ‘follower’, to solve an equipment transport problem. They had to manufacture a mechanical robot, design its electronics and then develop a software-based micro-controller.
Judges said their solution was of the highest calibre and a lesson for everyone on how products can be engineered.
