JOHN CAMPBELL quit his banking job to try to transform the fortunes of his local pub, The Haven Arms through the Government’s Do More Online campaign.
Formerly with Allied Irish, Mr Campbell, 30, who lives in Haven Lane, turned his hand to managing the pub last April with the ambition of returning it to its family roots.
He immediately targeted the pub’s online presence, harnessing the Government’s Do More Online campaign.
“The way the world is, you really do need an online presence otherwise people don’t know you exist,” he said. “For us, the web was also a way to project the pub’s personality.”
A website for The Haven Arms was launched and an Instagram account set up to accompany its Facebook and twitter pages.
Twitter followers have doubled in number since the turn of the year while the Facebook friend list has grown by 50% in the same time, contributing to what Mr Campbell hailed as one of the pub’s best Januarys ever.”
The Haven Arms is popular with the locals, as well as attracting the occasional personality, such as former England footballer Peter Crouch.
