This week listen to Naughty Boy’s Never Be Your Woman, featuring Wiley and Emeli Sandé.

The club track, a remix of White Town’s “Your Woman”,’ a sped up version of Bing Cosby’s “My Woman”, (as sung by Al Bowlly) is an upbeat tune with a mix of Glaswegian, husky vocals interspersed with garage-grime rap.

Currently at number three in the mid-week national chart, I caught Naughty Boy aka 25-year-old Watford producer Shahid Khan on his way to record a new song with DJ Ironik.

He said: “I had been studying business and marketing at Guildhall University, but didn’t feel it was creative enough for me. I left, received a £5,000 grant from the Princes Trust in 2005 and set up a studio in my shed.

“I recorded a track with Chipmunk and since then things have been really quite mental.

“I’ve been signed to Sony ATV and worked with Cheryl Cole, Lily Allen, JLS and Alicia Dixon. I’m flying to America soon to work with Jennifer Hudson.

“My major musical inspiration has come from Bollywood, which I think is reflected in the music I produce. Our next track, Daddy [which has vocals akin to Amy Winehouse and Nelly Furtado] I hope will reach number one, it’s one of my favourites.

“I’m a local boy who has been lucky and done well. Anyone can do it – you just need self-belief, confidence and perseverance.”

A live set will be broadcast on Sunday, BBC Radio 1. Check out Naughty Boy’s music at
