Teacher Jeremy Forrest is due to appear in court charged with the abduction of one of his pupils.

The 30-year-old married amateur musician, from Ringmer, near Lewes, East Sussex, allegedly went on the run with the student, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on September 20.

The maths teacher was extradited to the UK on Wednesday from France, where the pair were found eight days after their disappearance.

He is due to appear at Eastbourne Magistrates' Court charged with child abduction.

The pair's disappearance sparked a Europe-wide search.

In France, Forrest was held on suspicion of child abduction following the issuing of a European arrest warrant and was detained at Gradignan prison on the outskirts of Bordeaux.

He arrived back in the UK on Wednesday afternoon, flying into Gatwick Airport in West Sussex.
