Reid ready for new breakfast role

Ealing Times: Susanna Reid will present Good Morning Britain. Susanna Reid will present Good Morning Britain.

Presenter Susanna Reid has said she may not bother sleeping the night before her debut on ITV's new breakfast show.

Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Reid is the big signing who will front Good Morning Britain, which will replace Daybreak from Monday.

But speaking about nerves before her start date, she said: "I'm not sure I'm going to go to bed at all on Sunday night. But it feels very, very exciting."

Reid, appearing as a guest on ITV's This Morning today, agreed with presenter Eamonn Holmes's tip of having a pair of alarms to ensure she does not start late on her first day.

"I think you're right, two alarm clocks are essential for Monday morning - I haven't got up that early for a couple of months."

She is already a dab hand at early starts having spent a number of years on the sofa for rival morning show BBC Breakfast prior to her defection to the commercial station.

Her new role means she will no longer have a lengthy commute from her home in London to the Salford studio from which the BBC show is broadcast, in addition to her commitments to her young family of three boys.

However Reid said the demands of her previous role were no more arduous than those of many other other parents.

"It is what lots of working parents do. I think sometimes working parents do push the boat out to make sure they can try and fit everything in, but I really enjoyed doing it, and now I don't have to do it any more."

The new show will see her team up with Ben Shephard, Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins, who is moving from Sky News's Sunrise programme.

Hawkins was keeping tight-lipped about the look of the new programme: "T he set is doing to be different to what you're used to - there are lots of things going on and different parts to it."
