Marti Cifuentes admitted he is thrilled fans are enjoying watching QPR again, as the R's seek to climb out of the relegation zone with victory over Plymouth Argyle this evening, writes Will Castle.

After a torrid start to the season under Gareth Ainsworth, a change in management has coincided with a stark improvement in results for the R's, with Rangers now just two points adrift of safety thanks to three wins on the bounce in the Championship.

The Hoops looked certain for relegation when Cifuentes took the reins in West London but the Spaniard, who is quickly becoming a fan favourite at Loftus Road, is delighted that after months of hardship, the QPR faithful finally have something to cheer about.

“I am enjoying that the supporters are eating paella and drinking Estrella, I want supporters to be happy when coming to games,” Cifuentes said in reference to the song fans sing about him.

“Of course, we may face some difficulty but we are building something here and I have always wanted the supporters to enjoy themselves when coming to watch us play and I feel like that is starting to happen.

“We are getting better and better since my first game to the last one, there are some clear improvements.

“We are building some good momentum but we need to really push together to get as many points as we can.”

After sustaining a knock at Preston, Jack Colback will likely be absent for the Rs against Plymouth, while Morgan Fox and Albert Adomah remain sidelined.

However, Reggie Cannon is fit and available to feature, despite coming off against Hull with a knee issue.

As Cifuentes seeks to go four from four, he won’t be paying attention to his opponent’s poor away record – with Plymouth yet to win on the road this season.

“That run for them will end, that is for sure,” he added. “Hopefully it will not be tomorrow, but it will end.

“We have a good picture of what Plymouth can do. They are very good at counter attacking, and they also have players that can build from behind.

“We have somewhat a poor record against them in recent years so it is important that we perform at a good level and continue our recent positive results.”

Having endured a 13-game goal drought, Chris Willock is back in fine scoring form under Cifuentes, getting on the scoresheet in all of his last three outings.

It’s an indictment of how the former Hammarby boss has managed to get the best out of his players since his arrival – something that Plymouth manager Steven Schumacher has been sure to praise ahead of his side's visit to W12.

“Marti's gone in there and done a really good job, found a way to get the best out of Willock and [Ilias] Chair,” Schumacher said. “Paul Smyth's chipped in with a few goals and Lyndon Dykes is a really good player.

“[Cifuentes] has found a way to utilise his best assets and they've had some great results over the last few weeks.

“The three wins on the spin for them has put them right back into the mix. They'll come into the game with confidence, and we have to make sure that we're ready for it.”
