Luxembourg rider Andy Schleck is set to miss the Olympic Games and is yet to determine when he will return to competition.

Schleck was ruled out of the Tour de France - a race he won in 2010 after Alberto Contador was stripped of the title - with a fracture to his sacral body sustained during a crash in the Criterium du Dauphine last month.

In a statement released by Schleck's RadioShack-Nissan-Trek team, he said: "The recovery is not going as fast as I had hoped for, but the examinations of yesterday have shown that it's going in the right direction.

"We'll now have to see how the healing goes, but I can't wait for the day that I can race again.

"It's too early to make concrete plans for my return to competition, but I'm hopeful that I can still make something of my season."

Team manager Johan Bruyneel added: "The only certainty seems his absence from the Olympics, because they really come too early."
