QPR will be marking their Loftus Road centenary when West Ham visit on Saturday and they could be celebrating by going top of the league.

Rangers are a point behind leaders Wigan, with Ipswich and Reading between the two sides.

But if they beat the Hammers and the other three teams don't win their games, QPR will be looking down on the pile in their first season back in English football's top flight.

Ironically, West Ham were the first team to play at Loftus Road, on October 22, 1904.

Back then the home side were known as Shepherd's Bush FC, or the Bushmen to their fans.

The club, which was originally called Old St Stephen's FC, was formed in Westminster and has been in west London since 1895.

Faced with losing their ground to provide new housing, Shepherd's Bush leased land behind behind Ellerslie Road and Loftus Road, which had been used as a dumping ground during the construction of the London Underground central line.

If Rangers clinch the three points on Saturday, it will be their seventh successive win and complete a remarkable turnaround for a team in the relegation zone in August.

Rangers have been further boosted by the return of Tony Thorpe, who resumed full training after breaking a bone in his foot two months ago.

Thorpe won't be back in time for the Hammers match and others who will be missing include Gareth Ainsworth and Arthur Gnohere who won't be back in training until next month.
