PERIVALE Park Athletics Track has been given a major facelift with £147,000 devoted to making it one of the best in the country.

The track and netball court have been re-surfaced and there are brand new throwing circles, refurbished jump pits, new fencing and CCTV.

Choice services director Keith Townsend said: "It's a top class facility and thanks to the new investment it will be one of the best local facilities in the country."

A planning application for phase two of the redevelopment has been submitted. Plans include a new purpose-built pavilion, housing, changing rooms, office accommodation and a new club room and social area.

To mark the opening of the track, 100 young athletes took part in a Combined Events Minithon, comprising 800m, 75m, shot putt and long jump.

Nadia Mills of Perivale Panthers won the girls U13 as she prepares for the UKA Young Athletes League for the first time this year.

And Team-mate Anthony Haynes won the boys U13 category.
