A TALENTED schoolgirl has made boxing history by becoming the first female to represent Hanwell Amateur Boxing Club in an open tournament.
Kim Connolly, 15, who has been a member of the club for around 12 months, took part in a bout against Tara Davis of Coventry Boys Amateur Boxing Club in Abindgon, Oxford, on Friday, watched by her coaches Tony Woodley and John Bennett.
The Dormers Wells High School pupil, who recently passed the bronze level of the ABA of England Kid Gloves Award Scheme, lost on points after three tiring rounds but was delighted to have taken part.
She said: "I had a really great time and I can't wait to do it again.
"Boxing's brilliant."
Bennett, an Ealing Police Officer, said: "Considering the gym has been in operation since before the Second World War, Kim can quite rightly hold her head high.
"She is a real treasure to work with and gave an excellent display of her skills."
