QPR will be eyeing the Capital One Cup, says Kamara

TV PUNDIT Chris Kamara believes the days of the Capital One Cup being an afterthought for Premier League clubs is long gone – and he reckons the likes of QPR will be desperate to sniff out some silverware this season.

Mark Hughes’ side will travel to Reading next Wednesday with their stuttering start to their Premier League campaign no doubt weighing heavily on their mind.

In the past, the Capital One Cup has been down the priority order at both ends of the table as clubs focused on the bread and butter of the Premier League.

However, Kamara believes Arsenal, Liverpool and Birmingham have ushered in a sea change, in terms of the attitudes among Premier League clubs in recent seasons.

He believes QPR’s clash with Reading at Loftus Road on Wednesday night could be every bit as competitive as a league match between the sides.

“In recent seasons, the attitude of clubs has changed and you see every team in the Premier League, except perhaps for the top four, playing their best players and wanting to win it because they know how important trophies can be,” said Kamara.

“Premier League clubs will no doubt be going out to try and win the Capital One Cup, but it is a tough prospect with so many good clubs in the competition looking to put out their strongest sides.

“Arsenal, Liverpool and Birmingham have shown that in the last two seasons, but aside from the top four no club is able to make big changes to their team in the League Cup.

“Winning a trophy is so difficult these days and clubs are desperate for silverware wherever they can get it. So, people are giving the Capital One Cup a lot more attention.”
