Henrik Dalsgaard is riding the crest of a wave as he travels out with Denmark’s squad to the World Cup in Russia.

The defender is set to become the first ever Brentford player to play for their country at a World Cup should he turn out for the Danes.

Dalsgaard joined Dean Smith’s side last summer from Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem and made 32 appearances for the Griffin Park outfit during the 2017-18 season, scoring once. He has won ten caps for his national side.

Denmark line-up against Peru on Saturday for their opening match in Group C, which also contains Australia and France, and Dalsgaard is chomping at the bit to get their campaign under way.

“It feels really good, I’ve been waiting for this for a while now and now it’s official, I’m really happy and really proud,” said the 28-year-old.

“It’s definitely up there [with the best moments of my career] – I can’t wait to be there for the first game – it’s going to be an amazing experience.

“When we get to Russia, that’s when you realise this will be a real deal.

“I was with my wife when I found out I was called up – she’s been with me throughout my whole career so it was a big moment for both of us.”
