Sergi Canos believes Brentford can kick on from another solid finish in the Championship and target promotion to the Premier League next time around.

The 21-year-old Spaniard suffered persistent ankle problems throughout last season, which restricted him to 30 appearances for the Bees.

However, the winger feels that 2018-19 could be the year for Dean Smith’s charges, who have achieved four top-ten finishes on the spin since promotion to English football’s second tier in 2014, to mount an assault on the top six.

"It's very important and the gaffer wanted to finish in the top ten, so yes that's very positive,” said Canos, who scored the third of his three goals last season in a 1-1 draw with Hull City on the final day.

“The season got better for me. It was a bit frustrating at the beginning with my two injuries but I think after that I tried to give everything. It wasn't my best year but I can be proud with what I have done.

“Now I will relax and enjoy my time with the family. Then I prepare myself to come back even stronger.

"I think we are ready to make that extra step next season. If we keep everyone in and go in the same direction we can do great things."
