Frazer Clarke took one step closer on delivering on his promise to Anthony Joshua at the Commonwealth Games.

The super heavyweight is a training partner of the heavyweight world champion and guaranteed himself a medal with a solid quarter-final performance against home hope Toese Vousiutu.

But he concedes nothing less than a gold will do as he seeks to follow AJ's example from London 2012 and claim Olympic gold in Tokyo in two years' time.

"I spoke to AJ on the night of the Parker fight and he messaged me just after," he said.

"We don't say a lot of words, I expected him to beat Parker and he did and he expects me to win a gold medal here and I will.

"Some people want fame or money but I want my picture on the wall in the GB Boxing gym with the rest of the Olympians, alongside people like Audley Harrison and AJ.

"There's no doubt in my mind that I'm good enough. I work hard, I'm professional and I will be on that wall after Tokyo.

"You pick up so much from AJ, training with someone of that quality really rubs off on you.

"I watch every detail of how he prepares, silly things like how much water he drinks or how he stretches.

"The clever ones amongst us are always learning from him. When I'm around AJ I'm like a sponge and hopefully you are going to see everything I've learned in the next couple of days."

Clarke admits he was like a coiled spring waiting for his competition to begin and there were signs of ring rustiness.

But all six English boxers won their quarter-finals on Tuesday guaranteeing bronze medals which, in truth, they should all turn into golds this weekend.

Clarke faces New Zealand's Patrick Mailata on Friday and he's promising there'll be no mistake.

"That wasn't me at my best, people have seen me at 60 per cent there," added Clarke.

"I did what I had to do but the best Frazer Clarke is yet to come, so watch this space.

"I'm 100 per cent focussed on this, nothing else matters because this team expects nothing but gold medals.

"No disrespect to the Commonwealth Games but we are preparing to be world champions, this is just one step along the way. We train with the highest professionalism and we have the highest expectations."
