Flanker Renaldo Bothma admitted Ulster wanted it more on the day after the Irish province defeated Harlequins in the European Rugby Champions Cup at The Stoop.

Les Kiss’ side triumphed 17-5 in snowy conditions in west London, with wing Jacob Stockdale crossing and John Cooney kicking four penalties for the visitors.

England prop Kyle Sinckler crashed over for Quins’ only try of the game, with the defeat ending Quins’ hopes of progressing to the last eight of the competition.

And while Bothma felt the rub of the green might not have been with his teammates on the whole, the Namibia skipper admitted the Ulstermen were more clinical when it mattered.

“Ulster were up for the challenge more than we were,” said Bothma, who made his debut for Quins earlier this month after joining from South African Super Rugby outfit Bulls.

“They executed the set piece quite well and benefited from our mistakes and I don’t think we took advantage of their mistakes.

“The conditions weren’t perfect, but it’s the same for both sides, I think we were a bit unlucky at times but they were the better team on the day.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do this week. We’re a good bunch of team players and I’m looking forward to the next couple of weeks.”
