Harlequins flanker Chris Robshaw believes yesterday’s dramatic 20-19 win over London rivals Saracens can kickstart the club’s season.

Quins trailed for the vast majority of the game at the Twickenham Stoop, falling behind to Brad Barritt’s early try and Owen Farrell’s penalty.

But winger Charlie Walker twice responded for the south-west London club to keep them in the game, Farrell’s 14 points with the boot keeping Saracens ahead.

However, two minutes from time came a moment of magic, as scrum-half Danny Care’s crossfield kick was collected by Tim Visser, who touched down in the corner for a memorable win.

“It was pretty tough,” said Robshaw. “We’ve had some good battles and good London derbies over the years, especially down here, so it’s always nice to get one over them.

“It’s a London derby isn’t it and there’s always been a bit of heat here, there’s a lot of tension between the clubs and whatever else, I think you see the fans as well and we feed off their energy.

“To get one over them is good but I think we’re halfway through the season and we’re not where we want to be yet.

“Hopefully this will kickstart us up the league and into Europe.”

After two Aviva Premiership defeats on the trot, the win lifts Quins up to seventh in the league, and ahead of two Champions Cup matches against Ulster, director of rugby John Kingston was full of praise for his team.

“I’m really pleased for the group,” said Kingston. “It was a rollercoaster of a game and the belief was getting greater as the game wore on.

“We just about deserved it as we stuck at it. We knew if we were playing well we could take it to the wire.

“Saracens have a wonderful defence and that is a heck of a team we have managed to down.

“Every time you win you have to savour it as they are the European champions and still the litmus test.”
