Kirsty Gilmour admitted she would be in trouble with her parents after coming within two points of defeat at the Scottish Open Grand Prix.

The Scottish top seed was on court one for 64 minutes as she battled to a 21-12 16-21 21-19 victory over Denmark’s Natalia Koch Rohde.

Gilmour went 5-0 down in the first game but fought back and scored eight consecutive points to clinch an early advantage.

Rohde grabbed the second game and the pair were at 19-19 in the third, but the Scot kept her cool to set up a semi-final encounter with Soraya de Visch Eijbergen.

“I am just giving the crowd what they want! My parents are going to kill me after that for giving them a heart failure,” she joked.

“It was a tough game and I am just so relieved to get through it, it went down to literally two points at the end but that is the beauty of sport.

“I have played Natalia before but that is the best I have ever seen her play, she was hitting some really high-quality shots so credit to her.

“I was worried but you shut that down and every single point is huge. I was re-setting every single time and just trying to get back to the game-plan that I had.”

De Visch Eijbergen, who was promoted from qualifying, earned her place in the last four with a shock 17-21 21-12 21-16 victory over fourth seed Linda Zetchiri.

In the men’s singles, Lucas Corvee chose the perfect time to get his first ever win against third seed Emil Holst, advancing to the men’s singles semi-finals with a 21-11 21-16 victory.

Danes Amalie Magelund and Freja Ravn pulled off another surprise in the women’s doubles as they defeated third seeds Chloe Birch and Jess Pugh 21-12 21-17.

And the seeds had begun to fall even earlier as mixed doubles top seeds Sam and Chloe Magee were toppled by Dutch pair Jacco Arends and Selena Piek - French duo Bastian Kersaudy and Lea Palermo also fell foul of Jelle Maas and Imke van der Aar.
