QPR loanee Eberechi Eze deserves to be in the headlines after his double brought Wycombe Wanderers victory over Cambridge United, according to ex-Rs man Gareth Ainsworth.
The 19-year-old fired two second-half goals into the top corner, securing a 3-1 win for Ainsworth’s side at Abbey Stadium.
The QPR under-23s forward showed his talent, finding the net first off his right foot, then off his left just ten minutes later.
Eze joined Wycombe in August after making just one senior appearance for QPR last season, in the FA Cup defeat to Blackburn Rovers, though he came off injured after 18 minutes.
But after five starts for Ainsworth’s team this season, it seems the teenager is settling in well and the manager’s comments suggest many more appearances are on the cards before his loan spell comes to an end on January 2.
“The headlines will go to Eze,” he said. “Ironically, the story is I worked with him yesterday and said, 'you're due a goal, you don't have to put it in the top corner.'
“What does he go and do? He puts it in the top corner, so what do I know! He’s a fantastic talent and what a great character to have around.
"I love working with him. The older boys are rubbing off on him, they're complementing him, they're making sure he doesn't get too high and keeping his feet on the floor.
“But he's a talent and I think he's going to be opening a few eyes very soon. I'm just glad we've got him, at least until January.”
