Brentford skipper John Egan isn’t quite ready to jump the gun and press the panic button following his team’s faltering start to the new Championship season.

Dean Smith’s Bees have been tipped to mount a promotion charge this term but were beaten in both of their opening two games, losing 1-0 at newly-promoted Sheffield United on August 5 before suffering a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest at Griffin Park last weekend.

Tonight, Brentford have the opportunity to get themselves off the mark when they roll out the red carpet for Bristol City (kick-off 7.45pm) and Republic of Ireland international Egan, who opened the scoring against Forest last Saturday, is taking a suitably pragmatic view of the Bees’ campaign so far.

“It's a long season. We've got 44 more games left and we'll be on the training ground working hard,” said the 24-year-old defender.

“Our objectives haven't changed. We can learn a lot from them and try to win the next one.

“It's good that a game is soon after. We'll look to put things right. We've shown we can score goals and we need to keep them out at the other end.”

Brentford have recorded a win this season but required extra-time to secure a 3-1 victory at League One AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Lee Johnson’s City, meanwhile, will also be looking to bounce back from defeat this evening, having suffered a 2-1 loss at Birmingham City last weekend.

Midfielder Bobby Reid has found the net three times in two Championship outings so far this term.
