Aaron Morris is proud of Harlequins’ record at the Stoop but the full-back has warned his teammates the season will end in disappointment if they don’t improve their form on the road.

The London side have won every home game so far this campaign, but their away form has cost them – with just one road victory against Ospreys in the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

Last weekend’s 38-32 defeat to Newcastle Falcons means Quins sit sixth in the Aviva Premiership Rugby table, ahead of the second European break of the season.

This weekend they travel to Romanian side Timisoara Saracens in the Challenge Cup, knowing victory is vital if they are to reach the next stage after a narrow 36-35 defeat to Edinburgh last time out.

And Morris is adamant his side need to tighten up defensively if they are to turn their away form around.

“We were very disappointed and it has been a tough week as we try to swallow the disappointment from that Newcastle loss,” he said.

“We have moved on and we are looking forward to the test we have this weekend in Europe, but to go away and defend like we did means we can’t expect to outscore teams.

“It is hard to put your finger on our away form, it is clearly a trend on the road that we are not able to perform and it is something we need to change.

“It is amazing to still be unbeaten at the Stoop but at the end of the day you cannot mount a serious challenge if you don’t win away from home.

“We go into this weekend with confidence. We have only watched a handful of games but we know it will be a tough test.

“It is doubly important because of the Edinburgh defeat which was a real low point of the season so far.”

Morris joined Harlequins from Aviva Premiership Rugby champions Saracens in the summer and, after waiting patiently for a run in the team, the 21-year-old has taken his chance by playing in the last five games.

“I am happy here and it has been good to play in the last few weeks,” he said.

“I have had an opportunity and it has gone alright so I want to try and carry that on as much as possible and that starts this weekend.

“I have settled really well and all the lads have made me feel really welcome. They are a good bunch. It has been better in the last month or so as I have been able to contribute.

“I am generally happy with my performances. There have been some tough fixtures, like Leicester away. We got a great win against Bath before Newcastle and then a couple in the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

“The feedback has been really positive from John and all the coaches but I think there are areas I need to improve on and that is what I am focussing on achieving.”
