She may have accumulated over a hundred caps for England and represented Great Britain at an Olympic Games but defender Alex Scott is desperate to tick off another milestone – to play for Arsenal at Wembley.

Despite representing her country at the home of English football, turning out for her club side is something Scott has not yet managed, with then holders Arsenal knocked out at the quarter-final stage of the 2015 SSE Women’s FA Cup.

Last year was the first time the final had been hosted at England’s national stadium with a competition-record crowd of 30,710 watching Chelsea beat Notts County.

However Scott and her Arsenal side are now just one game away from their own Wembley appearance this season, with the Gunners having been drawn to face Sunderland in the semi-final of the SSE Women’s FA Cup on Sunday April 17.

And while admitting the Lady Black Cats are not without a number of impressive individuals, Scott is hopeful home advantage can play into her side’s hands.

“I have played at Wembley for Great Britain, for England, but I have never done it in an Arsenal shirt, so fingers crossed we do everything we can to get there,” said Scott.

“We’re just happy with the home draw, if you asked any of the girls, they were just hoping and praying for the home draw.

“No team is easy and with Sunderland, I think they showed in the league last year, they are a team not to be taken lightly, they have got a really talented bunch of girls there.

“There is Beth Mead who can score a lot of goals like she did last season. We have to do our preparation and make sure we’re fully ready for the semi-final.

“Rachael Laws is already pushing for the England senior side. She is an amazing shot-stopper, hard to beat and she pulled of some worldy saves in the league last year, so she is definitely someone we need to focus on.

“We signed a lot of players in the off-season and for us it was massive to make sure that we got everyone in and gelled really well.”

Either Manchester City or reigning champions Chelsea lie in wait for the winners of the tie between Arsenal and Sunderland with the final being contested on May 14.

The FA and SSE have announced that all children will be able to attend this year’s final for free, although Scott knows she can’t afford to get too carried away with dreams of a Wembley appearance with a big semi-final first up.

“For the SSE Women’s FA Cup to be back at Wembley – it is a showcase game and it always has been, to walk out at Wembley in an Arsenal shirt would be amazing,” she added.

“But we’re not there yet, we need to make sure we deal with the semi-final, but it would be a dream to get to Wembley.

“I definitely have a lot to offer at Arsenal. I know what it takes, I signed for Arsenal Ladies when I was eight.

“To work my way all the way through the youth ranks and to go on and captain Arsenal Ladies it gives hope for our youngsters.

“Even though we are bringing in top talent from abroad, there’s always that space if you’re good enough on the youth teams that you will be given your opportunity.”
