The time has come for Harlequins to show their short-code prowess and clinch the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s crown, according to Ollie Lindsay-Hague.

Londoner Lindsay-Hague is something of a veteran in the competition and Quins have impressed in previous editions, without ever going all the way.

Last time around they topped Group C to reach finals day on home soil, only to slip up at the semi-final stage at the hands of Newport Gwent Dragons

This year they will clash with Wasps, Saracens and Northampton Saints at the Ricoh Arena on Friday August 21, with a place at the Twickenham Stoop finals on offer to the top two.

And Lindsay-Hague is already thinking about the prospect of getting his hands on the season’s first piece of silverware.

“It would be nice to win a trophy – we’ve always been close to winning it, so hopefully we can do it this year,” said the 24-year-old.

“The final is at the Stoop, so a home final makes us keener to impress and make it that far. The fans will come down and they want to see us in the final, so it’s important that we get through the pool stages and make it that far.

“The last couple of years have been awesome at the Stoop and the atmosphere has been amazing. People enjoy themselves and everyone is having a few drinks, which is great because it’s all about a party atmosphere. I’m sure it will be the same this year.”

There are also, however, personal gains to be made during the Singha 7s, with the competition developing into an important platform for youngsters to impress – and Lindsay-Hague is no different.

“This year is a big year for me – I want to play as much as I can,” he added.

“It’s definitely a chance for the young guys to make an impression. You can really show what you can do in front of the coaches.

“Especially when you’re young it’s one of your first chances to show what you’re capable of both on TV and in front of the coaches.

“Mike Brown plays in my favourite position of full-back but he’ll be away so hopefully I can keep my head down, train hard and play well.

“He’s an awesome player and he always likes to help me on and off the pitch – he’s a good guy and a great player.

“We didn’t have a great year last season and it’s not where Quins deserve to be. We’re a top four club, so this year we’ll do everything we can to get back there.”
