Bees boss Andy Scott believes transfer mind games this summer will count for nothing once the nitty gritty of league action gets under way in August.

The 35-year-old, who recently signed a five-year contract at Griffin Park, has spread his net far and wide in a bid to find the eight players he feels he needs to sustain a play-off push next season.

He has already added three players to his squad since the final day defeat at Stockport County and admits to taking an interest what his rivals are doing elsewhere.

But with some clubs - including newly-promoted Aldershot Town and Exeter City - flexing their financial muscles early in the off-season, Scott is confident talk will be cheap come the big kick-off.

"You do have a little look around and seeing some teams make certain signings does make you smile," he said.

"There are teams out there pleading poverty and then are signing players on wages several times what we can offer.

"A lot of clubs are playing mind games in the transfer market as far as I'm concerned. You have to wonder where some are making cut-backs if they can afford to spend money on certain players. Money is being spent, but a lot of teams claim they spent this and that last season and didn't get promoted. It will be interesting to see how it pans out."

Blue Square Premier side Weymouth claimed this week they had fought off interest from Brentford to land young Reading midfielder Joshua Webb, son of former England international Neil - a fact Scott denies.

"I have had Josh looked at but have never been interested in taking it any further than that.

"I am sure these teams say these things just to make the signing look better than it is," he added.

New boys Aldershot and Exeter, who both won promotion from the Blue Square Premier last season, will make the step up next season and the Bees boss admits his side cannot afford to take either team lightly.

"Both teams have a winning habit coming up and that will make them difficult to beat," added Scott.
