Manager Uwe Rosler has challenged Richard Lee to reclaim Brentford’s number one spot ahead of current occupant Simon Moore, writes Tom Ambrose.

The 30-year-old stopper had only featured once this season, against Crawley Town in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, before Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup win at non-league Boreham Wood.

After injury ruled him out for the start of the campaign, Lee’s clean sheet and a string of stellar saves has provided Bees boss Rosler with a selection headache.

Moore, who signed a new three-year contract at Griffn Park this week, has impressed in the former Watford shotstopper's absence and the Bees boss relished the competition.

He said: “I wanted experience in the team, players who know all about the FA Cup and what needs to be done.

“The game was a big boost for Richard. In the first half, he pulled off a couple of great saves.

“Simon Moore has done nothing wrong this season and has come on leaps and bounds but he was fortunate to get the shirt without a real fight because of Richard’s injury.

“But Richard is back to his best and the fight for the number one spot is back on.

“Simon is in front of him at the moment because of the way he has played so far this season but it is nice for Richard to be putting the pressure on him.”

Rosler’s Brentford made comfortable work of beating Blue Square Bet South outfit Boreham Wood in the first round tie, courtesy of first-half strikes from Clayton Donaldson and Harry Forrester.

The Bees will face either Northampton Town or Bradford City, who replay next Tuesday, in the second round.
