MIDDLESEX maintained their lead at the top of the Frizzell County Championship Division Two after dominating a rain-affected draw against Northamptonshire at Lord's. They gained 12 points after scoring 400-4 declared and bowling Northants out for 231.
However, on Sunday, Northants exacted swift revenge, hammering Middlesex Crusaders by 214 runs in their Norwich Union League Division Two game. Northants made 286-7 and humbled Middlesex for 72.
There was further disappointment the following day when Middlesex lost their Second XI Trophy semi-final by four wickets to Kent at Uxbridge. The home side made just 136 and Kent recovered from 56-6 as Middlesex old boy Jamie Hewitt made an undefeated 44.
Middlesex returned to Frizzell County Championship Division Two duty against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge yesterday (Wednesday)
