Brentford boss Thomas Frank lauded his entire team after a robust 2-0 win against Leeds dealt a significant blow to the visitors’ promotion hopes.

After holding Millwall to a battling 1-1 draw on Friday, goals either side of the break from Neal Maupay and Sergi Canos sealed an impressive victory over the Whites at Griffin Park to cap off a successful Easter period.

Canos claimed an assist as well as a goal to collect the man-of-the-match award, but Frank insisted that it was hard to single out any individual performance.

He said: “When you play against a top-three side, you need to have at least eight players top-performing.

“I think that there were 11 out there today. I can praise all of them.”

Frank was particularly pleased with the strength of Brentford’s backline, and suggested that the visitors' game plan played into their hands.

He said: “We know we create going forward so I’m pleased to get a clean sheet against Leeds.

"I think the low defending today was top – they didn’t create anything from those situations; it was only when we gave the ball away.

“We wanted to press high. We knew that if we could win the ball in those situations that would create good counter-attacking opportunities and I think both goals came from those situations.”

The Dane is now hoping the Bees can build on the weekend’s results as they look to finish the season on a high with a trip to an already-relegated Bolton on Saturday before entertaining Preston on the final day of the season.

He added: “We know one thing we need to improve is our consistency of good performances, especially defensively. We want to be unbeaten in the last four and to take that into next season.”

Match-winner Canos revealed that his former Norwich teammates – who are locked in a battle with Leeds for automatic promotion – had his back for this tie.

"I had some [Norwich] players messaging me yesterday saying 'please score tomorrow' and yes I am pleased for them and congratulations to Norwich,” he said.

“It was a great feeling today, I have no words really. We are an amazing team; this season we have lacked a little bit of consistency but it’s a great result and we have to enjoy today.”
