England Rugby have announced that the Secure Trading Sevens Series is back for 2019 and is open for all community clubs and new and existing sevens teams to enter.

The exciting community sevens series, now in its fourth year, returns with a new streamlined format. Men’s and women’s sevens teams can now enter over 35 different local qualifying tournaments. Teams will earn ranking points at those tournaments depending on their results, with the most successful teams then invited to progress to the National Finals. Teams will then compete at the National Finals to be crowned the best men’s and women’s teams in England.

First launched in 2016, the Secure Trading Sevens Series aims to grow sevens rugby and increase participation among men and women. Last year, the competition attracted 10,700 players from across the country, with the series growing steadily year on year.

Sevens rugby is a key part of England Rugby’s work with Sport England, broadening high quality playing opportunities for all players. As well as winning the title, this year’s winning men’s and women’s teams will also win hospitality at HSBC London Sevens 2020.

RFU Rugby Development Director, Steve Grainger, said “The Secure Trading Sevens Series is growing year on year, welcoming teams and players from across England’s grassroots game. As the tournament grows, the quality of the game does too, with some fantastic rugby on display for spectators at every stage of the series.

“Our elite men’s and women’s sevens teams continue to inspire sevens players across the country as they compete in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, aiming for Olympic qualification. We hope the increased exposure rugby sevens is getting at the elite level will inspire new teams to enter the tournament and compete for the country’s highest national accolade in rugby sevens at a community level”.

Head of England Sevens, Simon Amor, said “The growth of the Secure Trading Sevens Series is fantastic for sevens in our country, providing a great opportunity for talented players across the country to compete on the national stage.”

The local qualifier events will take place from April to June across England. The Secure Trading Sevens National Finals, taking place on 29 July, will be a vibrant combination of electric rugby, entertainment and live music ensuring a unique experience on and off the pitch for players and spectators.
