Scrum coach Adam Jones lives in the hope that his Harlequins team can kick on and win the European Challenge Cup.

Harlequins made sure they will go into their final group game against Agen as pool leaders after a 38-20 win over Grenoble at the Twickenham Stoop on Saturday.

A crucial trip to France beckons this coming weekend and Jones is daring to dream big.

“These are big competitions and if we can go on and win this one, then even better,” said the former Wales front-rower.

“Any type of silverware you want to be winning, so touch wood we can kick on for the rest of the competition now.

“Agen will be a tough place to go and even if they are not performing well in the league, we will still have to look after ourselves.”

Quins ran in four first-half tries through Danny Care, Cadan Murley, Mike Brown and Max Crumpton to ensure a bonus point victory but Jones was left disappointed about the amount of points they conceded, having gone in leading 28-17 at the break.

Alex Dombrandt scored a late try to make it six tries in five matches as Quins head into their January 18 clash with Agen a point ahead of Benetton Rugby, their closest rivals in the group.

“It probably wasn’t the best performance we have had. We let in a few silly tries but we set ourselves the half-time goal of allowing them no more tries and we won the second-half 10-3,” Jones added.

“We got a bonus point and we will kick on to the next game against Agen but the boys are pretty annoyed at how we went, and we could have done better.

“The boys get pushed pretty hard in training and there is always different bits to work on.

“Even with the way Dom [Alex Dombrandt] chased down the full-back right towards the end of the game; we scored a try off the back of that.

“It shows the boys are playing for the full 80 minutes.”
