Stuart Bingham admitted he did a double-take at the table during his 145 break against David Gilbert – the highest of the UK Championship so far.
The Basildon cue man opened his third-round clash with Gilbert with the break en route to a 6-2 victory over the Tamworth man.
Bingham now faces a clash against Sunny Akani for a place in the quarter-finals and recalled what went through his mind during his break, which included a brief exchange with the match official.
“I expected a good game – I’ve got so much respect for Dave that I knew I had to be on top form,” said Bingham.
“I started off like a house on fire. I think I was on 70 and I looked at the table and there was 75 left.
“I said to the referee ‘what’s the highest break’, and he didn’t know, but I had it in my head it was 144.
“I got lucky on the next red where I landed on the black, when I’ve gone into the reds, it opened the rest up and I finished with a 145.”
