Mark Williams insists he remains focused on his own game rather than think too much about his opponents as he targets another tournament victory.

The reigning world champion defeated Thai potter Noppon Saengkham in the third round of the UK Championship and is enjoying another solid season around the table, having won the World Open in August.

He will take on Stephen Maguire in the last 16 and he believes he is happy enough with his own game to mount another title tilt.

“Overall, I’m more than happy with the way I played,” he said. “I feel good out there, I’m playing a lot better, I missed a few easy balls here and there but apart from that I think my game is coming along nicely.

“I was watching a few of their matches, there was a lot of huffing and puffing and banging the tables – I had a little chuckle to myself.

“He’s a top player and has played a lot better than he has for a few years, but I’m not interested in my opponent. I never have been.”
