There was drama unabated in the FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship this weekend.

Titanic clashes with implications at the top of both divisions provided intriguing twists to the respective title-races while struggling Everton also stole a share of the limelight with a sublime first victory of the season.

Here’s what we learned:

Georgia leads the way for City

Teenage kicks were the order of the day as the top two sides in the FA WSL went head-to-head at the Academy Stadium.

With two previously-unbeaten teams facing off, someone’s ‘0’ had to go and Manchester City forward Georgia Stanway rose to the occasion to inspire her side to a 2-0 win over table-topping Arsenal.

Stanway, who made her England debut in November, found the net in the first half before producing a dizzying solo run and finish to round things off after the break as City condemned Arsenal to their first defeat of the season so far.

Blues maintain upward momentum

Chelsea are on the march, Ji So-Yun’s 50th career goal for the Blues hauling them above Reading into fourth in the table.

The 27-year-old South Korea international bagged the only goal of the game four minutes into the second half to earn her team a 1-0 success at Kingsmeadow.

Things looked bleak for the reigning FA WSL champions when they were hammered 5-0 by Arsenal but Emma Hayes’ team have turned things around – the win over the Royals was their fourth in a row.

Sweet success for the Toffees

Everton are unlikely to forget the result that handed them a long-awaited first FA WSL win of the season in a hurry.

An agonising wait was brought to an end in style as two stunning strikes from Inessa Kaagman and Simone Magill saw the Toffees defeat Merseyside rivals Liverpool 2-1 in Willie Kirk’s first game as manager.

Kaagman took aim from range early on and fired an unstoppable hit past Anke Preuss before, after Liverpool’s Jess Clarke had levelled, Magill produced a scorcher of her own to win the day for Everton.

Red Devils pushed all the way

Free-scoring Manchester United may have extended their lead at the top of the Championship but they were given a thorough examination by a determined Lewes.

The Red Devils had plundered 19 goals in their last four matches heading into their trip to the Dripping Pan but found Lewes a tough nut to crack.

Eventually though, Casey Stoney’s side ran out 2-0 winners to maintain their unbeaten campaign, Mollie Green and Ella Toone finding the net.

Wildcats show off their six appeal

Durham sent out a major statement of intent with a thumping 6-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur, who had started the day as United’s nearest challengers.

Beth Hepple scored twice as the Wildcats ran riot in Cheshunt, Emily Roberts, Sarah Robson, Zoe Ness and substitute Chloe Ryan all also getting in on the act.

Durham moved level on points with Spurs, with both sides leapfrogged by Charlton Athletic, who won 4-0 at Leicester City.

It’s getting tight at the top.
