Michael Rhodes is on the fringe of Eddie Jones' England side but reckons the closest he can get to Test rugby for now is the Champions Cup.

The lock's Saracens side won the tournament in 2016 and 2017, so there are expectations the team has to live up to this time around.

The flanker explained why the competition is so exciting for the side.

“Before I arrived they came close a couple of times then subsequently we won it twice, back-to-back,” he told the Saracens official website.

“I think it’s the pinnacle of European rugby, the best teams competing against each other, which just adds an extra height and sense; almost with an international-like and feel to it."

The Men in Black have won every Premiership game this season, so make the trip north of the border in bullish mood.

Yet Glasgow will be no easy opponents, as they sit comfortably at the top of their conference in the Guinness PRO14 after five wins in six games.

“They’re obviously a great side who we played the season before last,” Rhodes said.

“The boys will be fired up for the next two weeks and we’re looking forward to it.”

The last time Sarries faced Glasgow was in April 2017 before claiming their second European title, Glasgow’s only-ever appearance in the final eight.

Rhodes admits the home advantage may work in Glasgow’s favour, but he’s still confident in his side’s ability.

“It’ll be a tough game up there with their home support and all that so we’ll have to give them our full attention.

“It will be tough away fixture for us but hopefully with the right preparation we’ll come away with a good win.”

The North London team are arguably at their strongest for the clash, with captain Brad Barritt back on the field after facial surgery last week.

Sean Maitland, Maro Itoje, Vincent Koch and Richard Wigglesworth will also be returning to the line-up.
