In-form Brentford striker Neal Maupay says he is revelling from the fast-paced nature of the Championship ahead of tonight’s trip to Ipswich.

The 22-year-old bagged both goals in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic following his return from a three-match suspension, and the France Under-21 international admitted that games can’t come quick enough at the moment.

But despite a warning from manager Dean Smith, Maupay is relishing the challenge of facing bottom of the league Ipswich Town, who are still without a win this campaign from their opening seven matches.

"It’s so cool when you are a young player because sometimes you lose games, but you don’t have time to think "what should I have done".

"You have got to be ready for the next three or four days. It’s really pleasing when you are a young player because you play every three days, it’s fun.

"I am confident, it won’t be like that every game, but at the moment we are playing really well and we have to keep going to see what’s going to happen."

Sitting pretty as the Championship’s top scorer on seven goals, the former Nice player has averaged a goal every 58 minutes in the league this season.

But the Frenchman will have to be on form again if Brentford are to keep pace with table topping Leeds United and avert a second loss in a row against Ipswich.

And with the high-flying Bees currently second in the table after a remarkable start to the season, boss Dean Smith says his side will only get stronger if they can ward against complacency this evening.

"We have got a really strong squad at the moment and it will be scary when we have the likes of Rico Henry, Moses Odubajo and Josh Dasilva with us which is only a month away.

"It’s a squad to be reckoned with that’s for sure.

"It will be a tough game, Paul’s gone in there after doing an unbelievable job at Shrewsbury last year.

"They have brought in a lot of new players and I think they are finding their feet.

"We have got to make sure that we concentrate on ourselves and what we are about because I have never been to Portman Road and found it easy – it has always been a tough place to go."

The Brentford squad were boosted this week by the return of Rico Henry to training after a year out with a knee injury, but the left back isn’t expected to make a return this month.
