After an impressive performance against Peterborough in the Carabao Cup, QPR boss Steve McClaren admitted that he is spoilt for choice when it comes to picking his starting eleven for Saturday’s match against West Bromwich Albion.

McClaren made six changes for the midweek Carabao Cup win against Peterborough United, with Joe Lumley, Alex Baptiste, Jordan Cousins, Conor Washington, Pawel Wszolek and Bright Osayi-Samuel all starting in the 2-0 victory.

McClaren was pleased with his side’s solid display on Tuesday and insists a similar performance is necessary if they want to beat West Brom at the Hawthorns.

“It was good to get some players playing games, the most important thing was to get a result,” said McClaren.

“People came in and did their job and it gives me a few nice little problems for selection on Saturday.

“The way we controlled the game and started the game was pleasing.

“We need to follow that up. It’s all good and well, we did the job, but we have to go and do it again on Saturday.”

The R’s currently sit in 23rd and are yet to pick up their first Championship points of the new season.

Only relegated from the Premier League last season, McClaren has warned his players that West Brom will be difficult to beat on Saturday.

“I’ve said to the players it is a great game for us.

“West Brom are full of Premier League pedigree and it will be a big test.

“They’ve more or less kept their squad together. They’ve added Dwight Gayle, a proven scorer in the Championship. It will be very tough,” commented McClaren.

Former QPR winger Matt Phillips is set to start for the hosts on Saturday, but McClaren is very aware of the threat he poses from the flanks:

“Matt Phillips - who I know from my last time here - is supplying the crosses and you’ve seen he’s been a handful.

“When you see him in the Forest and Norwich matches then he is certainly influential. Bids (Jake Bidwell) has got a job on his hands.”
