She may still be just a teenager, but Coventry’s Charlotte Moore insists her previous experience of playing at a World Championships will stand her in good stead as she looks to land a medal at this month’s Wheelchair Basketball event in Germany.

The British squad offers has a blend of youth and experience in Germany, with eight of the 12 having represented GB at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio.

The 12 athletes selected make up a youthful squad, with an average age of just 23 but despite this Moore, 19, is hopeful of finishing in the medals, building on their fifth-place result from four years ago.

The team head into the World Championships in excellent form, winning the recent Lyon Wheelchair Basketball Competition without losing a game.

And Moore insists the squad is in confident mood as they aim to make their mark in Germany, she said: “I’m excited to be going to the World Championships this year, it’s always such an honour to get selected, and as my second one it will be interesting to see how we develop from last time,” said Moore.

“I think my experience of the last one will really help me because I was a lot younger, so it was a completely different experience, whereas this one I’m older and understand more so I think it will be really exciting.

“We’re really confident going in, we’ve had a lot of games against the top teams in the world which is great preparation for it all.

“So, we’re hoping to get to the quarter-final and then the semi-final and take it from there.

“I think the Netherlands are the big team for us, I think they’re the best team so every time we play them it’s a big learning experience.

“My aspirations are to play the best I can and help the team get to where we’re aspiring to get to, I think that’s all you can do just go out there and do what you can.

“We’re such a young team, most of us did do the Worlds in China and I think that’s a massive thing for us to give us confidence more than anything.”

Moore, who plays for Coventry Wheelchair Basketball Academy, insists Britain are as confident as they can be for the competition in Hamburg and revealed the preparation has been meticulous.

“We’re confident in how we will perform as we have prepared well for the tournament, we’re excited for what we may achieve,” added Moore.

“My first ever tournament was in Germany and the crowds never disappoint, they’re always really loud and get you geared up to play.

“I think that is going to be a great experience to have a big event like a World Championships there.

“I think the World Championships is the second biggest event behind the Paralympics, just getting to play there with such great teams and big crowds is just an amazing experience.”
