They say never go back but Moses Odubajo has his fingers crossed that a return to Brentford will breathe fresh life into his career.

The 25-year-old full-back, who spent the 2014-15 season at Griffin Park, rejoined the Bees on a free transfer earlier this week following his release from Hull City in June.

Odubajo is in the midst of recovering from a serious knee injury and hasn’t made a first-team appearance since October 2016.

However, the London-born defender is hoping that familiar surroundings will help him get back to his best.

“Words can’t describe how delighted I am to come back to the team that believed in me from the start and moulded me into the right-back I am today,” said Odubajo, who has penned a one-year deal with the option of a further year.

“The opportunity was one I couldn’t turn down.

“Once I get on the pitch, the main thing is to stay on it and to fight for a position that I’d like to have.”

Meanwhile, Brentford boss Dean Smith is confident that Odubajo, who began his career at Leyton Orient, can fire on all cylinders once again.

“Moses clearly has the qualities we are looking for in a Brentford player,” said Smith.

“He is a good personality, a quality footballer and someone who wants to get better.

“He has had a tough couple of years with injuries but we are confident that, when managed correctly, we can get the best out of him and get him playing football to the standard we know he is capable of.”
