Bright Osayi-Samuel might have just given Steve McClaren an unexpected selection headache ahead of QPR's season opener.

The Hoops get their campaign underway at Preston on Saturday, with the winger making having made a convincing case for game time in pre-season.

Despite McClaren switching systems across preparatory matches, the 20-year-old is crystal clear what his manager demands of him as first-team football surely looms.

"I’m working on my individual game every day in training without fail and hopefully I can just continue to impress,” he explained.

“I’m learning a lot from the manager, I know this year I need to be as wide as possible so once the ball has been clipped over I can use my pace and hopefully take the players on and do my thing.”

Osayi-Samuel, used mainly as an impact sub after joining from Blackpool in 2017, scored the opener in QPR's 3-0 win over Union Berlin to round off their pre-season.

The strike saw him link up with Eberechi Eze, a colleague he is well-acquainted with.

“I’ve known Ebere for quite a long time now," said the Woolwich-born wideman.

"I know his strengths and that when he has the ball the first thing he thinks of is driving forward. For me what I need to do is just support him and get in the right spaces where he can slip me through.”

“I’m very excited, it has been six weeks of hard work, so it’s now up to us to show the fans how good we are!”
