QPR’s young striker Aramide Oteh believes happiness is the key to success as he netted in Rangers’ 7-0 walkover of Staines Town on Friday night.

The 19-year-old slotted home a penalty 25 minutes into the pre-season friendly after being taken out in the box, scoring his second goal for the first team after netting on his maiden start against Burton Albion back in January.

Vying for a starting role in Steve McLaren’s side next season, Oteh proved his worth with the goal but claimed it was all about the team spirit and improving his overall game for the future.

“It doesn’t matter who takes it as long as we score from it and you can see we are all happy,” said the forward.

“It was a good run-out, I really enjoyed it. The pressing and the chasing down is what gave me the most satisfaction.

“The gaffer wants us to press and we have been working hard on that in training so I was just trying to implement that in the game.

“It felt like towards the end of last season that was something I was lacking so it was good for me to show I have got that in me.

“He wants me to concentrate on doing my job when I play – to press, to score and to assist. So that is something I am really working on.

“It helps having so many familiar young faces around the first team because we all gel really well together. We are working hard towards one goal and that’s to be playing for the first team.”

McLaren opted for a traditional 4-4-2 formation with Oteh and Idrissa Sylla up top at Wheatsheaf Park, having tried out various line-ups in the two previous pre-season friendlies against Charlton Athletic and Barnet.

Feeling the formation was successful, Oteh emphasised the need for variation in order to challenge for the top spot in the Championship next season.

The striker added: “It’s probably the first time I have actually played in a 4-4-2 and I felt it went well.

“I think for us to really progress this season we need to understand different formations and have that versatility to our game, so it’s good to be working on that now.”
