Les Ferdinand says that Queens Park Rangers were keen to retain the services of Jack Robinson – but the former Liverpool defender chose to depart for pastures new.

The 24-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the month and after turning down an ‘attractive’ extension at Loftus Road, the club have confirmed that Robinson is on his way out.

“Jack will be leaving us,” said director of football Ferdinand.

“We made him a very attractive offer, but he decided to turn it down and take his chances in the market.

“We thank Jack for his efforts during his time with us and wish him every success in the future.”

In March, it was reported that Sheffield United were leading the chase for the soon-to-be free agent, and his stand-out performances in the second half of this season could encourage Chris Wilder to maintain his interest.

Robinson, who became the youngest player to make a first-team appearance for Liverpool when he made his senior debut for his boyhood club aged 16 years and 250 days against Hull City in 2010, scored two goals in 42 appearances during his time at Loftus Road.

Rangers will move on without the former Anfield protégé and Ferdinand says that the club are adopting a more measured approach to their transfer business this summer.

He said: “The club’s philosophy with regards to signing players and retaining players has changed in recent years and that is vital for our sustainability going forward.”
