SHE might be the youngest Team England athlete at the Commonwealth Games, but rhythmic gymnast Hannah Martin is not feeling the pressure.

For the 15-year-old from Hove, age is just a number and she is relishing the chance to show the world what she can do as she attends her first Games on the Gold Coast.

“I only realised when I got here that I was the youngest,” she explained. “I feel like any of the other athletes really.

“I don’t want to put loads of pressure on myself and not enjoy it, so the main thing for me is to just go out there and show my best, take in everything, and learn as much as I can.

“I can enjoy the experience because I’m just so excited to be here – I don’t think it’s extra pressure because I can do another Games if I want to.

“We support each other so well. In training, when we’re having a tough day we’ll help each other out and encourage each other - it’s really nice having supportive teammates.

“We don’t get to compete for England that much so being able to is really cool.

“I love my country so I’m just honoured.”

Surrounded by her gymnastics family in Brisbane, Martin can also count on her mum and grandma who are flying out to Australia to cheer her on.

And despite the hemisphere separating them, Martin is grateful that coaching staff are being so supportive from afar.

“In different parts of my journey I’ve had different people supporting me,” she explained.

“I’ve had so much support from my family, so much support from my coaches that I couldn’t name one person because they’ve all come together as a team and brought me to where I am now.

“Before I left, they gave me a massive send-off which made me feel really good coming to Australia.

“I get messages from my coaches and from my family back at home, and that always makes me feel happy knowing that they’re right there behind me, supporting me.

“It doesn’t matter where we are, we still have tough days in the gym, so knowing that they’re there backing me all the way is just great.

“I want to thank them so much because I would not be here today without them.

“Gymnastics has helped me through a lot of things in life, taught me so much and without them helping me learn and helping me experience this, I don’t know where I would be.

“It will be so nice to know that they’re going to be awake at the time and cheering me on.”

If Martin reaches the podium at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre, she and her family will hear the new Team England anthem ‘Jerusalem’ through the speakers.

The famous song was re-recorded by Britain’s Got Talent winner Tokio Myers and Team England long jumper Jazmin Sawyers, who competed on the televised singing programme The Voice, at the iconic Abbey Road studios.

“It’s really awesome because Jazmin is an athlete like us and she’s singing it which is really cool,” said Martin.

“I’m in the midst of learning the words, but I can’t sing! I really can’t.

“Hopefully they’re going to play the music loud enough so they can’t hear us!”
