Harlequins captain James Horwill wants his side to bounce back against Newcastle Falcons on Saturday.

Their last outing at the stoop saw Quins lose 22-44 to Wasps, before going down 33-18 at Leicester Tigers last weekend.

But Horwill is confident they can turn around their recent run of poor form, as they lie ninth in the English Aviva Premiership, four places below Newcastle.

“The last game we had at the Stoop we didn’t put a performance in that we’re proud of and we need to make it up to our supporters,” he said, speaking from St John’s School in Leatherhead, where the squad have been training this week.

“They’re the lifeblood of this club and we need to make sure we do everything we can to make them proud.

“I can assure you we’re doing everything we can to get the result and put a smile on their face come Saturday afternoon.

“We’re a bit guilty of pushing the pass a little bit, trying to offload when we don’t need to and not holding on the ball, not treasuring possession.

“We need to pick our accuracy up a little bit.

“It’s certainly something we’ve spoken about this week and we know what we need to do against a very potent Newcastle side.”

With Scotland and England meeting in the Six Nations at Murrayfield on Saturday afternoon, Horwill is pleased at how enthusiastic youngsters like Stan South have been performing.

England boss Eddie Jones has named Quins’ Mike Brown, Danny Care and Chris Robshaw in Saturday’s starting line-up, while Joe Marler returns from suspension to be named as a replacement.

“We’ve had some great guys step up. With internationals and a few injuries, we’ve had some guys that have played a lot of rugby when they probably weren’t expecting to,” he added.

“It’s been fantastic for their development, they’ve really put their hand up and made selection tough for the bosses.

“And that’s what we want, we want guys to continually put their hands up week in, week out.

“I think it’ll only help the development of the squad and them individually.”
