Brentford’s victory over Reading on Saturday could have been more emphatic had the visitors taken their chances claims defender Andreas Bjelland.

Lasse Vibe grabbed his seventh of the season in the 74th minute at the Madejski Stadium at Brentford made it two league wins in a row to bounce back from their FA Cup defeat to Notts County.

The Bees are up to ninth in the Championship, just three points off the top six and with just ten points separating second and tenth, Bjelland knows a good run could see them challenging for promotion come May.

“It was a good win and nice to get the three points,” he said. “I think we deserved the win even though at the end it became a little bit of a battle and they had some small chances.

“We could have scored two or three goals with some of the counter-attacks that we had.

“We showed some aggression and that we are a good team which is difficult to beat. We had to put in the hard work and a solid performance, which I think we did.

“In football you have to seek the luck and we have done that by playing well, being solid at the back, and creating the chances. If you do that then you get the luck.”

Nearly 3,000 Brentford fans made the short trip from West London to Reading for the game and the defender clearly appreciated their input during the match.

“It was impressive to see that many people there,” he added. “It isn’t a far journey but 3,000 showing up to see us play Reading, we haven’t seen that many before.

“It was a great lift for us and it was great to give them a result. You could hear their belief after the game.

“For us, as a young team, it is important to take it one game, and one step, at a time. There are still a lot of games to go and a lot of tough teams to play so it is about the next game and nothing else.”
