Harlequins will look to build on their fine win at Wasps last weekend in a tough test away at La Rochelle in the European Rugby Champions Cup.

A last-minute try from James Chisholm secured a 33-28 triumph for Quins against a Wasps side that require a bonus-point win over Ulster to qualify for the knockout stages,

At one point, Dai Young’s troops were 21-0 down but a late red card for James Haskell and the influence of Marcus Smith proved to be the difference.

Quins’ man-of-the-match Chisholm praised his players for their never-say-die attitude last week but appreciates an away fixture in France will create its own challenges.

He said: “We haven’t been in it for a season or two, so it’s exciting to come out and play.

“La Rochelle away; not many teams win there, so it is a huge challenge and a huge opportunity, and ultimately, we are playing for the club we love.

“It is easy to get motivated and work hard for the guys you’re going out on the pitch with.”

Already out of the competition, Quins will again look to upset Pool One’s second-placed outfit La Rochelle on their home turf.

Smith starts at fly-half whilst James Lang moves to inside centre in place of Jamie Roberts, who suffered concussion after being on the end of the challenge that saw Wasps’ Haskell sent off last weekend.

Further injuries to Mike Brown and Charlie Walker mean Ross Chisholm and Ian Prior start in the back three.

Amongst the forwards, Mat Luamanu is recalled into the back row after Renaldo Bothma suffered a broken arm last week.

On a positive note, Joe Marchant and Aaron Morris return on the bench following long-term injuries.

The sides last met in October when the French side recorded their first Champions Cup victory, the game ending 34-27.

La Rochelle will top the group if they win and Ulster lose but are still in a strong position to qualify at this stage.

Meanwhile, Quins have today announced that, at the end of the season, they will be signing 23-year-old Saracens winger Nathan Earle, who was this week announced as part of England’s squad for their Six Nations opener against Italy in Rome next month.

Director of rugby John Kingston said: “Nathan has a number of attacking and defensive weapons at his disposal but the most potent of which is his blistering pace.

“I have been particularly impressed with his strong desire to reach the very top of the game and have no doubt that he will add immensely to the environment we are building at Harlequins.”
