Skipper Nedum Onuoha hailed the importance of Saturday’s win at struggling Burton Albion after Queens Park Rangers put more distance between themselves and the Championship relegation places.

Goals from teenager Aramide Oteh, on his first start for the R’s, Conor Washington and Massimo Luongo gave Ian Holloway’s side a 3-1 win, which saw them leapfrog Nottingham Forest into 14th in the division.

Rangers are now nine points clear of the drop zone after losing just once in six league matches.

And Onuoha believes his side can now look further up division than over their shoulders after a solid run of results.

“It was such an important win for us,” he said, “It was a cliché six-pointer fixture, we knew that.

“Now we’ve got that nine-point gap, we can look onwards and upwards.

“In my time here, we’ve seemed to struggle against teams around us, so it’s nice that we’ve come out on top in a couple of those big games this season, recently at Birmingham, and again at Burton.

“It’s a massive boost for us to come out on top and we’re all looking forward to Middlesbrough this weekend now.”
