Dean Smith is wary of the threat that League Two high-flyers Notts County pose and confirmed he will rotate his squad ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup third round clash with the Magpies at Griffin Park.

Kevin Nolan’s Notts County are second in League Two, four points behind leaders Luton Town, having suffered just four defeats all season.

The Meadow Lane club accumulated seven points from a possible 12 over the winter period with 23-year-old top scorer Jorge Grant netting 16 goals in all competitions this season.

Brentford reached the fourth round in 2017 losing 4-0 away to West London rivals Chelsea after defeating National League side Eastleigh in their previous tie.

Despite a 2-0 defeated to Wolves ending a three-match winning run, Smith remained positive after the Bees’ winter schedule, although warned about slipping up against an in-form team.

“Notts County will be a potential banana skin for us,” said Smith. “They have done fantastically this season. We have to make sure there is no complacency and play to our strengths.

“The players are pleased with themselves, albeit we let one get away on Tuesday because we didn’t play to our capabilities. We need to create more when we are in control.

“We will patch the players up as best we can for Saturday and we have others wanting minutes.

“We will make some changes but that is more to do with players being spent after what they have put in over the past four games.”

Goalkeeper Luke Daniels is set to start with Dan Bentley likely to be rested. Left-back Rico Henry is sidelined with a knee problem.

Ex-County midfielder Alan Judge and new Danish signing Emiliano Marcondes may also appear, while Liam Noble and Shola Ameobi could return for Magpies.
